Elwyn R / YouTube
We’ve been following Elwyn R on YouTube for a few years now, him being an incredible videographer and photographer and all. From what we know he’s based in the U.K., as many of the videos we’ve shown you are from the Mach Loop in Wales and various runways around the country.
Recently, he ventured out to the U.S. and to a great spot to see some awesome flybys; Death Valley a.k.a. the Jedi Transition. Another name for this place is the Star Wars Canyon, hence the transition reference, and that’s where numerous squadrons from the Air Force and other countries practice their low-altitude flying.
Located some 260 miles east of Los Angeles, this was a training ground for honing low flying skills for pilots since World War II and has now become an attraction both for casual aviation enthusiasts and professional photographers alike.
There are plenty of aircraft that train here. From big transports like the C-17 Globemaster IIIs to the newest stealth jets like the F-35 Lightning IIs, the best pilots get their chops here. In the clip below, you’ll see 3 F/A-18 Hornets buzzing the canyon wall, possibly manned by Marine pilots.
