Any aviator will tell you that trying to put down your aircraft on a carrier deck is likeĀ “landing on a moving postage stamp in the middle of blackness.” It takes a specific type of person to perform this job and even though you may be a good or even great pilot, getting certified to land on carriers is not something everyone passes.
The Smithsonian Channel on YouTube just uploaded a spectacular mini episode of one such aviator trying to get her certification in a C-2 Greyhound. According to them, this was her tenth and final landing before getting officially accredited and as you’ll be able to tell, it still wasn’t a walk in the park. Every Navy pilot will tell you that no matter how many landing they have under their belt.
Luckily, although she missed the trap the first time, she caught the #3 wire on her second try and earned her wings. When watching the video below, remember that you’re witnessing yet another talented naval aviator joining our Navy’s ranks.
Congratulations Lt. Jr. Grade Emily Davidson.
